10 WWE Gimmicks That Were Basically Just Rip-Offs

9. Ric Flair/Buddy Rogers

Flair Rodgers Ric Flair, the styling, profiling, jet flying, limousine riding, wheeling, dealing and gimmick stealing son of a gun? That's right, the possible greatest wrestler of all time didn't come up with the "Nature Boy" gimmick. Not even close. That honor goes to "Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers. Besides taking his nickname, Flair also borrowed (to put it nicely) Roger's finishing move, his hair and even his mannerisms. Heck, he wasn't the only one who stole from Rogers, as even Vince McMahon lifted his ridiculous trademark strut from him! Rogers was one of the biggest wrestling names in the 50s and 60s. He knew how to work a crowd like no one else by creating an arrogant heel character that was far ahead of its time. Flair, on the other hand, was starting to catch on as a heel himself in the early 70s, but it wasn't until he called himself "Nature Boy" and began feuding with his idol Rogers did he reach the big time. After the dust was settled and Flair came out on top, he still kept everything that he had adopted from Rogers. Since then, countless others have imitated Flair, but they're really just doing their best imitation of an imitation.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
