10 WWE Gimmicks That Are Broken

7. The Hardy Boyz - Semi-Broken

Having returned at WrestleMania 33 to nab the RAW Tag Team Championships, The Hardy Boyz generated a great deal of buzz within the pro-wrestling community. More than the length of their title run or their ability to work in WWE’s current climate, fans were most interested in whether or not Matt and Jeff could retain their ‘Broken’ gimmick, a hugely popular piece of meta-character work, and arguably the reason they were brought back to WWE in the first place.

From what we’ve seen at ‘Mania and on the following RAW, The Broken Hardys are no more, and have been more or less replaced with the regular Hardy Boyz. They’ve got their old music, Jeff is pretty much back to looking and acting like original Jeff Hardy, and the brothers are even talking in their native Carolina accents. Matt occasionally lets Broken references slip out, and even Michael Cole alluded to the gimmick when the Hardys returned, but whether for legal or creative reasons, there’s clearly been a compromise of gimmicks.

Rather than being #BROKEN, the Hardy Boyz are now just broken. The “Delete” chants and the manic grins are still there to some extent, but The Hardy Boyz in their current form are more of an amalgam of their greatest hits, not unlike The Undertaker's final run with the company.

It’ll still be great, but it just might not be WONDERFUL.
