10 WWE Instances Where 'Payback' Was Deserved

10. Vince's Treatment Of Linda McMahon

It was one of the better moments of arguably the greatest WrestleMania of all time, but it was certainly deserved considering the conduct of Vince McMahon over the preceding few months. Vince had reduced his illustrious wife to nothing more than a mute in a sedated state due to months of ill treatment and foul play. This all started with the McMahon family feud in the build up to WrestleMania 2000. Then, after several months away, Vince wanted the six-man Hell in a Cell match at Armageddon called off as he was scared his assets would get harmed while Commissioner Foley wanted it to go ahead. Mrs McMahon backed Mrs Foley's baby boy to the distain of the then recently self proclaimed genetic jackhammer. So much so that Vince demanded a divorce live on television. Linda had a nervous breakdown as a result that allowed Vince to take over from her role as CEO and fire Foley. Vince would then start having the most public of affairs with new Diva Trish Stratus while Linda looked on in a sedative state thanks to her medication. Vince and Trish would proceed to rub Linda's face in it all until Shane returned to television to defend his mother's honour. A match was made for Mania 17 between father and son with Foley as referee. He had returned with a number of contracts that Linda had passed before her breakdown, one of which entitled him to referee any match of his choosing. During the match, and after Vince had knocked her out of a wheelchair and sat her in the corner, Linda regained her strength when Vince had Shane at his mercy and as Eric Cartman would say, 'kicked him square in the nuts'. Shane would go on to win the match with a coast-to-coast drop kick. Redemption complete.
