10 WWE Legends Who Should Have Won The Royal Rumble But Never Did
A stat that probably won't be used for WWE's annual Rumble numbers promo.
A lot of WWE's gimmicks and events have lost their aura over the last few years. Thinking specifically about the Hell In The Cell and Money In The Bank ladder matches. They're usually entertaining but they've lost a little bit of their magic, haven't they? It's probably just a case of diminishing returns and a little bit of staleness. WWE really went overboard with the gimmick matches for a time and now they don't mean as much. Thankfully, this isn't the case with the Rumble, which is still seen as a special event that only comes once a year and (usually) delivers. The Rumble is infallible, it seems. Bullet-proof. It's a very hard concept to screw up and it can be used as a launching pad for feuds and angles heading into the road to WrestleMania. The Rumble winner is also still very important, even if the winner is no longer guaranteed a shot in the 'main event' of WrestleMania and ends up fighting for the title on the undercard. To win the Rumble is a prestigious honour and a career highlight for many. Rumble wins are a status-enhancer and give the promotion something to constantly refer back to in order to highlight a particular wrestlers prowess. Basically, it's a big deal, and WWE is very selective with who they award the victory to. There have been some blips along the way, such as Yokozuna, Mr. McMahon and Batista's (second) rumble victories but, more often than not, the result is a right one. Given how few Rumbles there have been, in comparison to WrestleMania's for example, it's understandable that there are many legends and Hall of Famers that have never won the match. In fact, several of the greatest superstars of all time didn't even come close when they tried to outlast 29 others.
