Ultimo Dragon was doomed to fail in WWE.
Vince McMahon barely liked to push the more spectacular aerialists, so Dragon, who was more versatile and highly skilled on the mat, a master of every light heavyweight sub-genre, stood no chance. His run is remembered for two things: falling over at WrestleMania XX, and making Stephanie McMahon fall head over heels in love with him.
If certain rumours are to be believed.
If you're unfamiliar with his work outside of the Fed, he was very much worthy of those pictures in which he held more titles than Charlotte Flair.
At 56, the man is still astonishingly dynamic. He doesn't look arthritic in the least. Much of that has to do with his twilight years formula. In a clever layout, which he uses primarily in Dragon Gate these days, he works multi-man tags almost exclusively. He gets cut off early, stands on the apron, building the anticipation for his cameo, and when he finally gets in there, he outwits his younger opponents with his liquid, timeless chain wrestling. It's smoke and mirrors, yes, but nobody looks foolish selling for him.
He's in unbelievable condition for his age.
