3. Boxing - Wilder Vs. Fury II (2020)
Boxing is no stranger to flamboyant entrances. Naseem Hamed’s flying carpet ring walk is a sight to behold, and Chris Eubank sat on top of a Harley on the entrance ramp long before The Undertaker was doing it.
The second fight between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder has to be considered to have led with the most extravagant entrances of the modern era. Fury would set the scene, carried to the ring on a throne in full Gypsy King regalia. Wilder, however, would take things up to a whole new level with an upper body costume, suitable for a Triple H WrestleMania entrance. Melting together inspiration from characters from Donnie Darko, Lord of the Rings, Black Panther, and others, it would make for a really stylish look.
Whilst Wilder’s costume was undoubtedly pretty cool, it proved to be horribly impractical. Although unlikely to have changed the outcome, given the schooling handed out by Fury in the fight, Wilder would blame the weight of the 40lb outfit for his subsequent sluggish performance and inability to gain control of the ring following his loss.
