3. Randy Savage Vs Ted DiBiase - WrestleMania IV
WrestleMania IV from 1988 is famous for hosting a one-night tournament to fill the vacant WWF Championship, culminating with "Macho Man" Randy Savage defeating "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase.
But it wasn't supposed to be this way, as DiBiase was originally meant to go over.
That made sense, as he was the one who had bought the championship off Andre The Giant, setting off the chain of events that necessitated the tournament in the first place.
However, through a complicated butterfly effect, Savage ended up getting the nod.
Macho Man wasn't supposed to be in the tournament at all, initially slated to beat The Honky Tonk Man for the Intercontinental Championship. Honky somehow managed to wiggle his hips out of this situation, refusing to do the job.
As a result, Savage was put into the World Title picture and chosen to end the night as champion.
DiBiase would have made an excellent champion, but Savage was one of the defining top stars of the '80s and his title reign is one of the best of that decade. All that is without mentioning that this win set up the blockbuster main event of WrestleMania V.
