10 WWE Matches That Changed Your Mind About Wrestlers You Hated

2. Steve Austin Vs. Bret Hart - WrestleMania XIII

Despite playing a vicious, cheating heel, Steve Austin was already winning a fan following prior to WrestleMania XIII - and it came at the expense of Bret Hart, who had been a dyed-in-the-wool babyface for nearly a decade. Austin's popularity signaled a shift in the wrestling paradigm, and WWE decided to capitalize on it, making "Stone Cold" the top star in wrestling. Austin and Hart clashed in a submission match at WrestleMania, and the hatred between both men was palpable as they used chairs and electrical cords to destroy each other. Still, the match could only end when a man gave up, and neither competitor was willing to give his foe the victory, In the end, Austin passed out while locked in Hart's Sharpshooter, and the match was stopped. The always-defiant Austin didn't change his character one bit - he simply shifted his focus to Hart, who became a petulant bully with his performance. The double-turn was executed perfectly, and Steve Austin won over 100% of WWE's fanbase.
