10 WWE Matches That Changed Your Mind About Wrestlers You Hated
3. The Rock Vs. Triple H - SummerSlam 1998
The Rock's ascent to the top of WWE wasn't always smooth, but when he found himself as "The People's Champion," it was inevitable. Rock's Intercontinental Title reign was the longest in years, and when it came time to drop the championship to move onto even higher levels, he unexpectedly found himself with a new fan following. The Rock collided with longtime rival Triple H at SummerSlam 1998 in a ladder match - only the third on WWE Pay-Per-View - and both men proved that they could compete at the level expected of main eventers. More than that, though, The Rock won over the Madison Square Garden crowd with his unique personality and his refusal to stop fighting for his title. It was Triple H who scored the victory in the end, bringing a conclusion to the program between the two men, but the chants of "Rocky" that filled the world's most famous arena showed that WWE's next major star had arrived.
