10 WWE Matches That Completely Exceeded Expectations

3. Roman Reigns Vs. Brock Lesnar (WrestleMania 31)

One year on from defeating The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar was again involved in a WrestleMania meeting that, ultimately, over-delivered.

Much of the build to Lesnar’s meeting with Roman Reigns had been marred by the rejection of the latter’s push. By the time the match rolled around, it was almost as though critics had been so wrapped up in the thought of the finish, specifically the likelihood of Lesnar putting Reigns over, that they’d hardly considered that the preceding match might actually be a good one.

So, when Lesnar then proceeded to brutalise Reigns, who in turn responded with some thoroughly believable facial expressions that, god forbid, actually endeared him to the audience, there were more than a fair few words being eaten by the anti-Reigns brigade.

The challenger took a huge amount of punishment, and yet time and again he sucked it up and came back for more. Then, of course, there was the late swerve in the form of Seth Rollins’ Money in the Bank cash-in, unprecedented in a WrestleMania main event, and the perfect conclusion given the circumstances.
