10 WWE Matches That Completely Exceeded Expectations
2. Goldberg Vs. Brock Lesnar (Survivor Series 2016)
At Survivor Series 2016, Goldberg faced Brock Lesnar in what was his first WWE match in 12 years. His last, incidentally, had also been against Lesnar, when the two met at WrestleMania XX where they were both booed out of the building.
That meant the bar was set low for Survivor Series. Fans just thought it was cool to see Goldberg back in the ring, but the novelty return soon became a sensational one when Goldberg beat Lesnar, the all-conquering, indestructible Lesnar, in less than 90 seconds.
Everything about this was brilliantly presented, from the camera cuts to scheduling the match go on with 30 minutes still left on the show, leading viewers to believe this would be your usual, lengthy main event match.
Instead, Goldberg steamrolled Lesnar in record time and the Toronto crowd ate it up, dispelling any worries about fans in the city possibly holding a grudge against Goldberg for his role in the retirement of their countryman Bret Hart.
It was a bold move, but in the end, it paid off. And even if it wasn’t quite your cup of tea, you’ve got to admit it was miles better than that WrestleMania XX meeting…
