10 WWE Matches That Defined Each Year Of The 2010s
4. 2016 - Triple H vs Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns was already a two-time WWE Champion heading into his main event clash with Triple H at WrestleMania 32. He'd won the vacant title in a tournament the previous year, only to lose it to Sheamus' Money in the Bank cash-in. He would then win it back from Sheamus on an episode of Raw, before losing it in the 2016 Royal Rumble match.
The man who won that match and therefore the title was Triple H, who had been an Authority-shaped hurdle in Roman's path ever since his split from The Shield.
The two put on a very average match that ended with Reigns spearing The Game to overcome his tormentor, reach the top of the mountain, and send the fans home happy. Well, that's what was meant to happen in WWE's eyes.
What actually happened was that Reigns was booed out of the building. Despite being the babyface, Reigns was almost wholeheartedly rejected by WWE audiences. However, here he was, WWE Champion in the main event of WrestleMania.
This result proved that WWE were backing Reigns no matter what. The hardcore fans' opinions simply didn't matter; as long as Reigns was money, he was at the top of the card - and this night was just the first of many examples of that throughout the 2010s.
