5. Chamber Of Horrors

Poisonous still to those who lived through it, Triple H sullied his burgeoning reputation as one of the industry's greatest ever in-ring stars with a two-year stint so rotten, it was then hard to trust if he could ever be 'The Game' again.

His 2002 return from his first significant quadriceps injury came seven months on from being the best all-rounder in the entire industry, but his mass of muscle (at the visible expense of mobility) highlighted the first of many insecurities he'd gained during his rehabilitation. A year on, Hunter had a tight clutch on Raw's World Heavyweight Title.

Whilst a WrestleMania XIX victory over Booker T (where the racist champion cleanly defeated the racially abused challenger) was the ultimate nadir, the catastrophic conclusion to SummerSlam 2003's Elimination Chamber earns a podium finish.

As evidenced by his three-quarter length athletic support tights, Triple H was admirably working with a torn groin for much of the summer, with the Chamber allowing him to mostly rest whilst his opponents scrapped over his title. Taking Sweet Chin Music from Michaels the second he exited the pod, Hunter was permitted to lay down whilst top challenger Bill Goldberg laid waste.

It was an incredible spectacle, and marked the only time in his WWE run up to that point that he'd actually been permitted to be Goldberg. The fans were rabid for his concluding destruction of the pathetic World Heavyweight Champion. Then he ran into a sledgehammer shot, took a pin, and a long, long show-closing beating. It was absolutely insufferable.
