10 WWE Moments That Destroyed The 'Fiend' Character

Despite missteps along the way, 'The Fiend' was booked as a dominant Universal Champion for nearly 120 days after capturing the strap (which later became an actual strap) at Crown Jewel. Although some fans gave up on Bray Wyatt after the aforementioned Hell in a Cell match, the championship reign gave those holding on some hope for the future. Booked as though impervious to damn near everything, Vince McMahon & Co were determined to make the character work, or so it seemed...

What 'Big Mac' loves more than Wyatt's new character, though, are his good ole legends. Because the WCW veteran didn't know when to call it quits, Goldberg showed back up just in time to set up a Universal Championship match with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 36.

The only issue was neither man held the title.

Rather than protect 'The Fiend,' he was thrown to the wolves during his bout with Billie. At the very least, WWE could have made Wyatt look strong even in defeat, but instead, he was steamrolled by his 54-year-old foe.

For many, the loss to 'Oldberg' was the last straw. For all intents and purposes, it seemed as though the company threw away a character with so much potential just for one match at 'Mania.

The decision ultimately bit WWE right in the ass. Once the pandemic hit, Reigns was off of WrestleMania, leaving Goldberg to drop the belt to Braun Strowman, who then dropped it right back to 'The Fiend.'
