"Let the storyline play out and see where it goes".

"All undefeated streaks have to come to an end".

"She can now develop more as a character for the loss".

Bullsh*t. Bullsh*t. Bullsh*t.

In old money, WWE would adhere to such principles. Under the careful penmanship of a Pat Patterson, a ten-years-younger Vince McMahon, a storyboard-toting Chris Kreski or even a midcard-aware Vince Russo, these were left turns that would prove to form part of a character's long and winding road back to a promised land.

Sadly, none of those once-great forces can intervene. Asuka's fate sits between the fickle fingers of the WWE creative machine - a reactionary and often-devastatingly clinical swallower of legitimacy, legacy and long-term booking.

James Ellsworth returning was a desert flower - a brief and crucial reintroduction for the Carmella character who's currently a queen in a castle made of sand. His revived role as her sidekick should give her the steam it did last year, particularly considering the nuclear heat their Money In The Bank schtick drew last year. The success of yet another cheap victory still depends entirely on the success of her next programme, but - unlike Asuka's once-legendary run - this is not a streak WWE can keep relying on.
