This is sort of like wrestling's version of the moon-landing conspiracy, in that if it were all a big ruse, it'd be absolutely incredible that everyone involved has managed to keep schtum for all these years.
Apart from that, we know that Bret Hart was heading to WCW for real (we saw him there - that's incontrovertible), and it wouldn't have really made any business sense to generate buzz for your competition by making their new big-name acquisition part of the biggest wrestling story for a generation.
The facts are background noise though. This is about the fans trying to call WWE's bluff, having become hyper vigilant about anything that blurs the lines between kayfabe and real life after years of smoke and mirrors.
