During the closing months of 1999, there was something akin to a revolution happening in the WWF's tag-team ranks. Young duos like The Hardy Boyz and Edge & Christian were coming into their own, and the addition of The Dudley Boyz from ECW seemed promising.

Little did anyone know what this would lead to down the line.

Those TLC epics between that trio of teams will never be forgotten, but the foundations were laid by The Hardyz and their Canadian counterparts at No Mercy in October 1999.

A tag team Ladder Match was on offer, sitting snugly in the middle of the card. It was the first of its kind, but that didn't necessarily guarantee any sort of success.

During an earlier entry, innovation was mentioned, and there was a whole load of it in this one. Following this match, ladders were looked upon in entirely different fashion by wrestling fans, and credit must go to the quartet featured at No Mercy for that.

The next evening on Raw, fans were so taken with what had happened on the pay-per-view that they treated the foursome to a standing ovation. There was no looking back as far as their respective careers were concerned.
