10 WWE PPVs That Couldn't Follow Their Opening Match

8. Taboo Tuesday 2004 - Chris Jericho vs. Shelton Benjamin

As novel an idea as Taboo Tuesday was, it didn't exactly churn out the best PPVs. The inaugural event is a prime example; although it ends on a decent high, with an emotionally-charged cage match between Randy Orton and Ric Flair, a great deal of the undercard is absolute trash. Christy Hemme vs. Carmella, Eric Bischoff vs. Eugene, and Kane vs. Gene Snitsky are about as good as you'd expect. The opening match is a different story, and has been cited by Shelton Benjamin as one of his favourite matches ever. He and Jericho pack a tonne of action into their 10-minute slot, an effort made all the more impressive by the fact that Y2J didn't even know his opponent until seconds before the match. The Taboo Tuesday concept allowed fans to vote on the contender for Jericho's Intercontinental Championship, a selection of 15 superstars ranging from Tajiri to Jonathan Coachman. The pair called the match entirely on the fly, and managed to nail an exciting ending (despite Jericho not actually knowing Shelton's finisher).
