From @kevinhardie: Could the whole CM Punk leaving WWE be a massive angle leading to him winning Royal Rumble as surprise entrant and beating Lesnar at WrestleMania 31?
There's very little chance that all of this is some elaborate work. Of course, back Vince McMahon talked to shareholders in February he just said that CM Punk was on a "sabbatical" and they haven't updated things since. His contract ran out in July, though, so he's no longer a WWE employee. If WWE booking was that creative to turn this into some big work then we wouldn't be as bored as the product as we sometimes are. It would be wonderful if CM Punk was back. He's one of the best WWE performers of the last decade and one of the more popular guys too. His return would be a great thing for WWE although it's not expected to happen.
