5. Owen Hart's Babyface Run After Bret Left?

Owen Hart
From @SickPavarotti: Your take on Owen Hart's brief face run post Bret's departure, late 97/early 1998? Hot crowd for his return, but in midst of Austin's rise.
He was really popular when he came back after Survivor Series 1997. The fans had a lot of sympathy for him because they were sad about what happened to Bret Hart. If WWE really planned it out they would have pushed Owen hard as a babyface, but they didn't pull the trigger on it to elevate him. Like you mentioned, it was also at the time when Austin was rising along with others like Mankind, The Rock, Triple H (those two were heels) and of course the likes of Shawn Michaels and Undertaker were on top. It just didn't seem like WWE had interest in pushing Owen as a face at that point. He did have a feud with Triple H in early 1998, but then he turned heel later in the year. Owen was a really good all around wrestler that could have great matches with anybody at any time, but it was he was always better as a heel. That's probably why he didn't get a push after the screwjob.
