5. Why Haven't WWE Had A Five-Star Match Since CM Punk Vs. John Cena

Punk Cena
WWE

This is potentially my favourite question of the week, as it makes a lot of sense. We routinely hear how WWE's roster is currently stocked with more talent than ever before - so why hasn't there been a five star match since that Punk vs. Cena epic in 2011?

There have arguably been better in-ring spectacles than Cena/Punk which, although brilliant from a workrate standpoint, isn't quite perfect. That encounter was so good because it was also built on the back of white-hot storytelling, an aspect of WWE's product that has been notoriously inconsistent over recent years.

I don't know for sure how Dave Meltzer deems a particular match worthy of five stars, but he seems more inclined to do so when excellent wrestling meets excellent storytelling. WWE hasn't quite reached that level of balanced excellence since, although you'd think it can't be far around the corner.
