9. Drake Maverick

That video was a little bit heartbreaking, wasn’t it? Despite being named in Group A of WWE’s Cruiserweight Championship tournament just a few days earlier, Drake Maverick was one of the first names released by WWE. Maverick had been acting as the GM of 205Live since January 2018, although he is best remembered for managing the AOP and struggling to contain his bladder when faced with Big Show. That or failing to consummate his marriage, choosing instead to chase the prestigious 24/7 Title. Actually, yeah, definitely the latter.

All of that makes Drake Maverick’s run in WWE seem a little lacklustre, but the opposite may well be true. The former Rockstar Spud was frequently given the lamest of storylines, only for the Brummie to take that chicken sh*t and make some seriously good chicken salad. One of the most talented performers going, Maverick is one of those rare breeds; a character whose comedy makes them credible.

This sort of talent should not go ignored. Drake Maverick has been a fantastic on-screen talent everywhere he has performed, and a run in AEW would be no different. Heck, sign EC3 and pair them up again, now’s your chance.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
