Thankfully, Dave Bautista was gifted the WWE send-off he most definitely deserved in the wake of a typically gruelling war with The Game on the Grandest Stage in 2019. Yet for a while there, it was looking as though fans' memories of The Animal inside of a squared-circle were forever going to be tarnished by a seriously disappointing spell on the back of a long awaited return in 2014.
Not quite still in the ridiculously impressive shape of old - which was to be expected after taking a few years off to pursue acting - Big Dave was presented as a returning hero, hellbent on reclaiming the top prize at 'Mania. Which would've been fine had it happened a few years earlier, only now the fans already had a star they wanted to see win the big one: Daniel Bryan.
Jump to an ill-advised Royal Rumble win, followed by a forced heel turn in the lead-up to a loss in the 'Mania XXX main event, and it was clear that things just hadn't gone to plan for the legend. The same mistake was not made five years later, however, with Drax slipping straight into full heel mode from the get-go.
