Val Venis was the kind of character that pushed the boundaries very far in WWE. As a wrestler with a porn star gimmick, WWE did all they could to make him popular and his greatest success came as a babyface. In the spring of 1999, he was flirting with Debra all the time. It appeared as though she was interested, but she really wasn't and ended up staying as the manager of Jeff Jarrett. Meanwhile, Nicole Bass was also in the mix as somebody that had the hots for Val. Since Nicole was not a very good looking woman, Val had no interest in her. Things changed for Val and Nicole. The thought of being with her started out as something Val hated, but in typical Vince Russo booking fashion from that era, he ended up liking it. They were paired together for a couple of months including the forgotten Over the Edge 1999 show where they teamed together against Jarrett & Debra. They were the match that followed Owen Hart's death. A few weeks later when they had a bikini contest with Debra against Nicole, Val was firmly in Nicole's corner. It was an angle that didn't get very far because Nicole's run in the company was short lived, so it's not one of those romances that is celebrated or remembered very well.
