Referring to Triple H and Shawn Michaels’ relationship as complicated does it a disservice. The phrase “best of enemies, best of friends” has never better described a pair of professional wrestlers. The 2009 DX incarnation was a success with the duo reuniting during the latter half of the year. The team main evented two pay-per-views (Hell in a Cell and TLC) and were the current Tag Team Champions.

Triple H held his own from #8 but soon needed reinforcement. Michaels entered at #18 and swiftly racked up eliminations against Carlito, Ted DiBiase Jr., Cody Rhodes, and John Morrison. He saved his DX brother from Drew McIntyre, and the two joined forces to eliminate the 6 ft 5 in Scot.

Triple H limped around the ring, rubbing his thigh. HBK’s face betrayed the thoughts he was harbouring. The duo squared up in the centre of the ring, but John Cena’s entrance came as a welcome distraction. Cena almost eliminated Michaels, with Triple H making the save. However, a Sweet Chin Music sent ‘The Game’ soaring over the top rope, completing a betrayal that was the anthesis of the fans' expectations.
