Mick Foley and Terry Funk are close friends who’ve battled all over the world in some of the most hardcore matches in the history of professional wrestling. Fans are advised to think twice before revisiting their famous Japanese deathmatch.

When Foley (as Cactus Jack) drew #1 and Funk (as Chainsaw Charlie) drew #2, it was evident that 1998 wasn’t going to feature a typical Rumble beginning. Cactus arrived with trash cans, and Chainsaw brought the power tool from which his name derives. Foley began launching steel chairs in the ring, which Charlie batted away with his chainsaw. The tag team beat each other with weapons, in a back-and-forth, turn-taking fashion. Thankfully, a referee managed to sneak Charlie’s chainsaw out of the ring.

The two eliminated Tom Brandi and attempted to eliminate each other but relented at the last second. With Charlie dazed against the ropes, Cactus again attempted to eliminate him, but sent himself over the top rope when Chainsaw ducked.

When Foley made a surprise #16 return under the guise of Mankind, he went straight for Chainsaw, clobbering him to the outside. A betrayal nobody saw coming, with Foley utilizing his ‘Three Faces’.
