10 WWE Saudi Arabia Matches That Didn't Totally Suck

5. AJ Styles Vs Samoa Joe (Crown Jewel 2018)

Styles and Joe have been around the world and seen the lot, and it’s likely the veteran pair could have put on a solid match in their sleep. So it’s worth praising them right off the bat for actually putting in a good bit of effort and easily walking away with the best match on a patchy (to say the least) card.

It’s good, old school wrestling which tells a story and all adds up. Joe has another bite at ending AJ’s lengthy title run; he knows his foe like the back of his hand and has an answer for all of Styles’ innovative offence, including an inch-perfect snap powerslam off a springboard attempt.

Styles, meanwhile, makes up for his size and strength disadvantage with his agility and willingness to weather a storm. Joe pulverises him with his snug offence, but AJ has an answer every time.

They don’t go too long, condensing all the highlights of previous matches into just over 10 minutes. Of course, they’ve done better work, but this keeps the crowd invested like little else on the card, and even if AJ’s win after one Phenomenal Forearm is a little routine, they know exactly what’s required of them to put on a show.
