6. Bayley Vs Naomi (Super ShowDown 2020)
It’s hard to know where to start when it comes to the Saudi shows’ (and the Saudi government’s) treatment of women, but it certainly can be depressing to see them forced into full-body suits just to be granted permission to do their jobs. With that in mind, it’s all the more heartening that Bayley and Naomi managed to have one of the best matches on this card.
It helped that Bayley was going into the form of her life in her superb heel guise, and had in Naomi one of the most underrated and underutilised performers of her generation. The two get very little from the crowd (who sit on their hands the majority of the show), but all the same put on a decent heel vs face match, with Bayley brawling and grappling to shut down Naomi’s pacy offence.
They even manage to factor the ludicrousness of their working conditions into the finish, as Bayley manages to tangle Naomi up in her state-mandated baggy t-shirt in order to nab the pin. Both women have obviously put on better bouts under less oppressive circumstances, but given the playing field, they do a terrific job.
