10 WWE Signings That Didn't Live Up To The Hype

If you didn't expect the original Sin Cara to feature high on this list, you haven't been paying too much attention over the last few years. The Sin Cara character is quite clearly cursed, as whoever dons the faceless mask almost immediately evolves from a wildly-talented performer into a botch waiting to happen. That curse also spread to tag partners, and Kalisto still struggles with it to this day.

All joking aside, the signing of Mistico in January 2011 was major news in the pro wrestling world. WWE held a press conference in Mexico City to announce the arrival one of the biggest stars in the professional wrestling world at the time, a major coup and seemingly a sign of how things might change under Triple H's stewardship. WWE had big plans for the big star, and in only his second match he teamed with John Cena to defeat The Miz and Alex Riley.

The Sin Cara Curse soon kicked in however, and injuries, botches, and wellness policy violations got in the way of any potential momentum the character could build. Wrestling in porn lighting certainly didn't help, and neither did the fact that none of his opponents (with the exception of Daniel Bryan) seemed able to keep up with him, causing all sorts of timing errors and mistakes in his matches.

The original Sin Cara shuffled out back to Mexico in January 2014, three years after his hugely hyped signing. Needless to say, that hype was not met.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
