10 WWE Star Making Moments That Changed Nothing
8. Curtis Axel Knocks Off Triple H (2013)
When you're the son of one of the greatest in-ring technicians ever to ply their trade in the business, people are always going to expect a lot from you - and in the early stages of Curtis Axel's WWE career, it was looking as though he was actually going to live up to the legacy of Mr. Perfect, Curt Hennig.
As things would turn out, the former Michael McGillicutty's shocking victory over the indomitable Triple H proved to be both the biggest and only real high-point in his underwhelming run as a WWE employee. The fact that the victory came due to an oddly executed concussion being suffered by The Game, still didn't take away the full shine of a 'W' over one of the company's biggest names on his first night as the newly christened, Axel.
As Paul Heyman's newest advocate, the star looked as though he had the world at his feet. However, fans quickly realised that this push wasn't destined to last and as quickly as he'd won his first Intercontinental Championship, he was being used as a pawn in the CM Punk/Heyman feud.
Failed attempts at tag team success followed and Axel now finds himself out of the company, having been let go in April 2020.
If only he'd been allowed to add a few more notable scalps to his initial knocking out of The King of Kings.
