10 WWE Stars Destined To Be Remembered For One Storyline

1. Goldberg

173. That’s the number of men that WCW claimed Goldberg beat in his remarkable streak. While the real number was apparently nowhere near that it was still one hell of a run before Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and a taser brought it to an end. The work had been done, and Goldberg was already a star.

And yet the rest of his career never quite lived up to that potential. WCW was already spiralling towards the end and aside from being involved in the concussion that many believed led to Bret Hart’s stroke the rest of Goldberg's time there is remarkably unremarkable. Even dream matches against Triple H and Brock Lesnar in WWE all ended with a fizzle rather than a bang.

Goldberg’s problem wasn’t a ridiculous story or character but a brilliant one. He rode in like Rusev on a tank and built up an expectation for himself that he was never able to match. Seventeen years since the end of his streak it is still what he is remembered for. With rumours that he will return to WWE refusing to die, maybe he will get a chance to cement a different legacy yet.
