10 WWE Stars Fans Refused To Give Up On

10. Dusty Rhodes

Or decidedly rib-tastic.

Insiders like Bruce Prichard can say what they want (and they have via podcasts), but putting Dusty in polka dots still reeks of rib. Typically, the great man made the most of things and managed to maintain his aura despite being presented as a midcard comedy act. That's what the best do – they adapt and they thrive.

Fans who carried over with Dusty from the NWA kept on cheering him even when he wasn't pushed with the same ferocity in the WWF. Any newcomers who were sampling Rhodes' work for the first time were similarly impressed by his energy, zest for the art of the promo and his everyman appeal.

Through polka dots, the rather unnecessary addition of "Sweet Sapphire" as his manager and a two-year run that didn't exactly go anywhere between 1989-1991, fans stuck by the 'American Dream' and refused to treat him as anything less than a star attraction who deserved their acclaim.
