Take a step back though and look at Cena's career and it is hard to see why he deserves it. If you are going purely by accolades, the man is nearly untouchable. A fifteen-time World Champion, five-time US Champion and a four-time Tag Champion. Can you seriously argue with that?
Plus, would anyone bet against him notching up a few more before he retires? There's an Intercontinental Title missing there for one thing.
However, the boo boys will proclaim that that doesn't matter. The company loves Cena, so the company will give him belts. So let's look at his matches. In the last ten years has anyone delivered as consistently as John Cena? He's done it all. Marquee matches vs. The Rock. Five star matches with CM Punk. Wrestler creating turns with Kevin Owens.
When was the last time he put on a proper stinker? You'll need to think about it.
In the here and now the only thing that stops John Cena being WWE's ultimate villain is the rise of Roman Reigns. However, history will show him up for being the legend that the company tells us he is, and he will deserve every bit of praise sent his direction.
