10 WWE Stars Who Were Unrecognizable From Their Early Days

4. Johnny Polo - Raven

The role that Scott Levy was most known for was Raven, but it wasn't the gimmick he had when he first started in WWE. After being known on the national stage as Scotty Flamingo in WCW, he was called Johnny Polo in WWE in 1993-1994. That Polo character was mostly an obnoxious heel that was managing the Quebecers. He left WWE to develop the Raven character in ECW. It can be argued that Raven was the best character that ECW had because he was so different from everybody else and captivating with his promos. He was there from 1995 to 1997. Since ECW wasn't paying that well, he went to WCW in 1997-1998, then back to ECW for a year and finally he made it back to WWE from 2000 to 2003 this time as Raven. His run in WWE wasn't that successful because WWE management never seemed to get behind the character. They put him in the ring, said this guy is Raven and just assumed people would care. The storyline that his character had in ECW didn't carry over to the bigger company. Because of that, his WWE run was mostly a failure. Despite the fact that his WWE run wasn't that great, the way he completely re-invented himself from the Polo character to the brooding Raven was masterful. He put so much time and effort into making Raven work.
