10 WWE Stars Who Were Unrecognizable From Their Early Days

3. Headshrinker Fatu - Fatu - The Sultan - Rikishi

Headshrinker Fatu Rikishi2 Rikishi Fatu is part of that big Samoan wrestling family that has produced so many great wrestlers over the last 40 years. He started out as part of The Headshrinkers tag team with Samu in 1992 and they teamed together until 1995. They didn't talk. They just wrestled as a couple of Samoan badasses. When Rikishi broke away from the team, he became Fatu (his real last name) and they shot these cheesy videos with him doing well in the community. He was known as "Making A Difference" Fatu that was a positive role model for the fans. It was a major change from his previous gimmick. The Sultan was his next gimmick. He wore a mask and had the Iron Sheik as well as Bob Backlund in his corner. He was put with those legends because WWE had high hopes for the character, but with many other cool characters emerging in 1997 the fans just didn't care for The Sultan. He was repackaged again in late 1999 as Rikishi Fatu. The name Rikishi is the Japanese term for a sumo wrestler. The name fit because he had put on a lot of weight and was billed at 425 pounds. It was in that gimmick where he also wore a black thong outfit that exposed his ass, which led to the popular Stinkface spot. The fans loved everything he did because he was very entertaining as Rikishi. His association with the popular tag team of Too Cool really helped too. Their dancing routine was loved by the fans. When he turned heel in 2000 it was a bad move because the fans weren't ready to boo him. It was his work as a babyface that people will really remember. He's a rare performer that had four different looks in WWE that were completely different, yet he made them work and fans of WWE will always have a lot of love for Rikishi.
