10 WWE Stars Who Briefly Flirted With The Main Event
7. Shelton Benjamin
Shelton got his moment in the sun after trading SmackDown for Raw - and, by extension, a middling tag team with Charlie Haas for a promising singles run, sans the singlet - in March 2004. His first match under the Monday night lights was with erstwhile World Heavyweight Champ Triple H, against whom he recorded the unlikeliest of victories courtesy of a roll-up pin (and, admittedly, a helping hand from Chris Benoit).
What followed was, by popular consensus, one of WWE's all-time oops moments. Shelton briefly became an antagonist of Evolution, alongside heavy hitters like Benoit, Mick Foley, and Shawn Michaels (who each had their own axes to grind with Triple H and co), but he was, before long, put back in his place by the 'Cerebral Assassin' - and never really recovered.
