10 WWE Stars Who Failed In WCW
1. Bret Hart
Bret Hart is unquestionably one of the greatest wrestlers in WWE history. Sadly, his WCW run was a stark contrast to his time with Vince McMahon.
In the wake of the Montreal Screwjob, 'The Hitman' made his unspectacular debut as a special referee at Starrcade 1997. His in-ring debut came against Ric Flair at Souled Out in January '98, however, Hart wouldn't wrestle again until March.
With only three WCW matches under his belt, Hart inexplicably turned heel and became an "associate member" of the nWo. Labelled as yet another crony for Hogan, Hart became lost in the shuffle and was positioned firmly outside the WCW Title picture.
Despite main eventing World War 3 in November (a losing effort to DDP), he wouldn't appear on WCW PPV again until February '99. Hart's stop/start push continued until the big Goldberg/steel plate angle in Toronto. Sadly, this coincided with Hart needing surgery and his brother's tragic death in May. As a result, Hart didn't return to action until September.
Just when it looked like Hart had finally found his rhythm - capturing the WCW Championship - he suffered what would be a career ending injury in the main event of Starrcade '99.
Through bad luck, poor management and bad booking, what could have been WCW's franchise player was left to play second fiddle to Hulk Hogan's ego.
