Before Muhammad Hassan was ever even a twinkle in Vince McMahon's creative eye, Sgt. Slaughter was causing uproar and proving to be a master of drawing ire from wrestling fans across the world. Once standing tall as the sterotypical American military man, Slaughter was turned heel in 1990, returning to WWE from the AWA. This was done mainly because Hulk Hogan needed a new heel to feud with going into Wrestlemania VII, and a turncoat Slaughter would be the perfect foil. Turning his back on 'Old Glory', Sarge began embracing the colours of Iraq, aligning himself with General Adnan and Col. Mustafa. Immediately, there was a degree of discomfort over the gimmick, which was played strictly to capitalise on rising tensions between American and the Middle East. Much like with Muhammad Hussan, this one could never last long, and it was pretty much over as soon as Hogan vanquished Slaughter on the grand stage of Wrestlemania. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yru-bIqX0WQ
