10 WWE Stars Who SERIOUSLY Need A New Look
7. Akira Tozawa
In the 1980s and 90s, there were two tropes the then-WWF loved: wrestlers having second careers, and tacky racial stereotypes. Vince McMahon packed his match cards with garbage men, accountants, and cowboys. And if you were a member of a visible minority, that meant your other job was based on a racial stereotype.
Akira Tozawa seems to have fallen into a WWE time machine set for 1988. In his current gimmick he is a ninja, and it looks as though his attempts to capture 24/7 Championship gold are wedged into his schedule between battling mutant turtles and infiltrating G.I Joe headquarters. Not only is the gimmick kinda racist, it's also tremendously dated, offering evidence that the creative team at Titan Towers stopped consuming non-wrestling media literally decades ago.
Tozawa has been assigned to the gimmick-heavy comedy end of the wrestling spectrum, and while he might be happy just getting on TV, it's not doing much good for his future. Once the joke has run its course, he'll have to be seriously rebuilt, or maybe leave WWE altogether to try and regain his credibility as a serious performer. The sooner he can get out of the ninja costume, the better.
