10 WWE Stars Who Should Have Won Money In The Bank

Chris Jericho is the innovator of the Money in the Bank match.

Determined to get on the WrestleMania 21 card in a meaningful way, he brainstormed an idea with former head writer Brian Gewirtz that would feature ladders, multiple participants and something prestigious for the winner. The result was a bout so incredibly popular it was given its own pay-per-view extravaganza.

Yet, no matter how influential he was in its creation, or how many times he has done battle in the contest itself, Jericho has never actually won the briefcase. That could all change on June 19, when he joins Alberto Del Rio, Dean Ambrose, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens and Cesaro for the 2016 incarnation of the contest but for now, the future Hall of Famer has yet to cross that accomplishment off his bucket list.

It is not difficult to see why. The match was introduced in 2005. That was the year Jericho took his first extended leave of absence from WWE. Since then, he has taken more hiatuses from the company, focusing his attention on his band Fozzy, a stint on Dancing With the Stars, hosting television shows and jump-starting his own podcast.

The opportunities to have him win the briefcase, then embark on a drawn-out storyline have not been plentiful.

Factor in the idea that the briefcase has traditionally been used to help elevate a younger star and you have all the reason for Jericho not to have held the ultimate prize he helped dream up.
