10 WWE Stars Who Would Be Nothing Without Their Props
6. Al Snow's Head
Allen Ray Sarven, under the WWF alias of Leif Cassidy, tagged with Marty Jannetty in mid 1996 and the two were billed as 'The New Rockers'. When Jannetty jumped ship, Cassidy was left to paddle around in obscurity, jobbing out to mid-carders before being sent to ECW as part of an overall plan for the two companies to counteract WCW's success.
Al Snow became a different prospect entirely in the land of extreme. His new gimmick, being heavily influenced by abnormal psychology, involved Snow obtaining a mannequin head off the street and portraying a man suffering from schizophrenia, who used said head as a projection prop for the split character.
The reason for grabbing the head? An on-screen conversation with Cactus Jack prodded the man to 'get a little head' (alluding to sleeping with a booker). Snow took this in a different direction and the fans loved it.
Chants of 'We want Head!' regularly signalled how over this mannequin had actually got.
Upon his return to the WWF in 1998, he continued with his talking 'Head' gimmick and was used to great comic effect throughout the Attitude Era - even fighting himself in a hardcore match.
We know that in this age of sensitivity around mental health that this entire character could be seen as offensive yet there's no denying that at this time, it was what the people wanted and it got Al Snow on the map.
