1998 was finally the year that saw the World Wrestling Federation turn the tide against World Championship Wrestling in the Monday Night Wars, and they did so on the back of a once-in-a-lifetime roster of talent.

Even so, picking out seven talents to take part in a hypothetical Money in the Bank match is actually quite difficult, as the roster was loaded with so much legitimate main event talent that the briefcase may not have been required by most.

Even so, there were a number of men bubbling under the surface ready to explode. The Rock and Ken Shamrock battled over the Intercontinental Championship for the first half of the year, and as such would surely have been in the match. They would have been joined by (by now) former winners Triple H and Owen Hart, looking for that big push over the top.

The final three spots would have gone to a recently turned Marc Mero, Steve Blackman and the man who handed Blackman his first loss in WWF, Jeff Jarrett. As for the winner? Well, The Rock's popularity was growing quicker than you can raise an eyebrow, so we'd most likely have a People's Briefcase on our hands.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
