3. CM Punk
WWE.comEasily the most topical entry on our list, the biggest story in wrestling right now isn't even happening on live television. Following the Royal Rumble this year, CM Punk was notably absent on Raw the night after. It transpired that after a closed doors meeting with Vince McMahon and Triple H, he decided to go home. As it stand, we still don't know all the details, but one of the most solid reasons we've heard is his lack of opportunity at a Wrestlemania main event and we can't disagree with him considering the circumstances. In 2011, he was on fire following his now legendary worked shoot promo on an episode of Raw in Vegas, in which he called out the McMahons, Triple H and the rest of the company for holding back the deserving and endlessly pushing the likes of Cena down our throats. It spoke to what the hardcore section of the WWE fanbase were thinking and shot him to the top, culminating in one of the best PPV matches in decades at Money In The Bank 2011 where he knocked off Cena for the title and then left the company with it. Upon his return, he quickly embarked on a run in the main event picture and after a false start (courtesy of Triple H and Kevin Nash) he embarked on a historic 434 day title reign which was ended by The Rock at the 2012 Royal Rumble. Throughout this title run however, he was continuously kept from main events by Cena, even though he was the champion. The ultimate snub came when he was kept from the Wrestlemania XXVIII main event by Rock vs Cena, despite still being the champion. After his title loss in early 2013, his on-screen performance dropped off and the fans could tell his heart wasn't in it anymore. In hindsight it shouldn't have been surprising that he left and although his departure was for a multitude of reasons, we're betting that being kept out of the main event he treasures so much was a major factor.
