Want a more egregious financial tale?

In late-2008, multi-millionaire Shawn Michaels put on his best puppy dog expression, "lost his smile" all over again and informed a perplexed world that he'd lost his life savings due to the ongoing global recession. That let cash-rich chancer JBL swoop in and offer him a one-year "employment contract" to do his bidding.

Michaels would eventually free himself by winning an 'All Or Nothing' showdown with Layfield at No Way Out 2009. That, handily, left him open for a timeless clash with The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXV. There, Shawn pocketed quite the payday, just as he had for massive matches over the past 15years or so.

It was hard to suspend one's disbelief enough to believe that Michaels was skint. Some people were struggling to make ends meet, sure, but ol' HBK wasn't one of them, and it was fanciful of WWE to expect that fans would think he couldn't put food on his family table without JBL's help.
