10 WWE Storylines That Turned Into Real Life Shoots

5. CM Punk Pipe Bomb Comes True

WWE.comWWE.comIn 2011 we witnessed CM Punk cut one of the greatest promos ever, the legendary 'pipe bomb'. This worked shoot was what catapulted Punk to main event stardom, including a 434 day WWE title reign. The whole basis of the 'pipe bomb' was that Punk was dissatisfied with the WWE, he had taken enough bad creative from Vince McMahon and his "idiotic daughter and doofus son in law". As a result of WWE's incompetence, Punk announced he would be leaving the company. The thing is, it was all fictional. As soon as Punk got backstage he was getting high fives off Vince and Triple H, it was great storytelling. Little did any of them imagine that less than three years later, Punk would be quitting the WWE for real, with mostly the same sentiments he had expressed in this storyline. He took off from WWE suddenly the night after the 2014 Royal Rumble. Physical burnout along with creative malaise had led Punk to losing his passion for the business. The funny thing was, because so many people had witnessed this exact same scenario play out in the 2011 storyline, no one quite knew if Punk was for real this time.
