10 WWE Street Fights That Actually Lived Up To The Name

9. Pat Patterson vs. Sgt. Slaughter: Madison Square Garden 1981

The Alley Fight. The first mainstream street fight ever seen. Pat Patterson was coming to the end of his in-ring wrestling career, already branching out into other areas of the business. Despite that, this has to be the highlight of his active career. Pat issued a public challenge to Sargent Slaughter after the pair had been exchanging pleasantries for some time. The two met in the ring on April 6th at Madison Square Garden, but the bout ended in a double disqualification after no less thirteen minutes of brawling. A rematch was set up for May 4th, but with unique rules. It would be an 'Alley Fight' in which there would be no referee in the ring. The two men would simply go at it until one of them could no longer continue. And that's what they did. For the standards of the day, this has to go down as one of the most brutal bouts even seen in the business. There was several spots involving straps, cowboy boots and Pat's 'I Love NY' T-shirt that would have certainly left a fair few people complaining. The Match ended with The Grand Wizard throwing in the towel on Sarge's behalf, after Patterson bloodied him by repeatedly hitting him in the head with his cowboy boot. Seeing Sarge like that is one of those iconic moments in the history of the business and a must see for any wrestling fan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrV4XaCuGP4
