10 WWE SummerSlam Hidden Gems You Need To Check Out

1. Mankind vs. Triple H (1997)

When looking back over Mick Foley's career, the words 'Hell In A Cell' instantly spring to mind. Sadly, this Steel Cage Match from SummerSlam 1997 is overlooked by many. That's a crying shame, because there was an old-school sensibility to the action, and deliberately so. A young Foley had been enraptured by a Cage bout between Jimmy Snuka and Don Muraco in 1983, and wanted to pay homage. Even in '97, Mankind had caught on with fans. On the flip side, Triple H - even as 'King Of The Ring' - was struggling to really get over. There's no doubt about it, a series of matches opposite the popular Foley helped 'The Game' become exactly that. As for SummerSlam 1997, it was a shrewd decision to open up the show with the infamous blue bars and some hard-hitting action. Whenever this match is spoken about, it's mainly due to Foley's elbow drop from the top of the cage onto a prone Triple H. Whilst that was incredible, the actual brawling itself deserves credit. Even Chyna played a big part, smashing Mankind's head in sickening fashion with the cage door. The drama of the finish, as Chyna tries to pull Triple H through the door and Foley scrambles over the top of the structure, is gripping.
