8. The New Day Vs The Miz & John Morrison

This was good. This, at points, was really really good. Not the level of good a Network documentary will one day tell you John Morrison’s 2009 SmackDown singles run was, but far better than just a functional time filler (what John Morrison’s 2009 SmackDown singles run actually was) not least considering the result.

The heels becoming tag team champions was the first reminder on the night that WWE have traded titles on these events before (ominous music intensifies), but the workers and work told a better story than another one about the overarching narrative of these Saudi Arabia cards.

Breaking down after Kofi missed a trust fall (a wild, WrestleMania-worthy bump from a man who probably knows he won’t be in one of the main events again this year), Morrison clocked E with a chair to leave him prone for a Skull Crushing Finale.

So little of this really matters at the moment, but the four wrestlers tried really hard to make it, even with obviously obstacles. It was, by a distance longer than Kingston is from headlining ever again, the best match of the night.
