10 WWE Superstars Badly In Need Of A Character Reboot

2. Stardust

Like his father Dusty Rhodes when he joined the WWF and was put in yellow polka dots, Cody Rhodes has fully committed to every single character and gimmick that has been thrown his way. Whether he was Randy Orton's lackey in the Legacy faction, disfigured or dashing, one-half of Rhodes Scholars or The Brotherhood, or most recently Stardust, Rhodes has embraced every character he's portrayed and it's time, once again, to repackage the young but experienced second-generation wrestler. Despite Cody's success and professionalism in his approach to his character(s), he has yet to break through as a main-event superstar. Last year, many people in the wrestling business felt that he could've dropped the Stardust gimmick and returned to being "Cody Rhodes" after the passing of his father, the legendary WWE Hall Of Famer Dusty Rhodes. To Cody's credit, Cody grew even more committed to the Stardust character, not wanting to turn the loss of his father into a storyline or to try and "capitalise" on such a devastating loss. Although that was unlikely to be the perception since many fans were behind Cody, he stuck with Stardust which resulted in a SummerSlam tag match involving celebrity superhero, Stephen Amell, aka the Green Arrow. With that said and another year come and gone, Stardust has run its course. It's a "gimmicky" as pro-wrestling characters come, which isn't always a bad thing, but for Cody Rhodes, it's holding him back. As already shown, he's capable of pulling off anything given to him and with WWE in desperate need of fresh character babyfaces, Cody Rhodes, updated for 2016, could finally break through. Fans want to get behind Cody, and returning to his father's surname will not be exploitation, rather a way to continuously honour the American Dream. Cody's got all the tools, it's time for WWE to give Cody the one opportunity he's yet to receive.
