The hometown hero is a cliche professional wrestling trope, but its something that can be effective when done correctly. Every wrestler has a hometown (Parts Unknown is filled with them,) and when WWE decides to have a show in a city that happens to be that wrestlers hometown, youd think they would try to give that particular wrestler even the slightest sliver of spotlight in order to please the people who came to see him or her perform. But thats not WWEs M.O. Instead, they like to do the exact opposite and humiliate the wrestlers who show up to perform in their hometowns. Over the years there have been many examples of moments where a wrestler had to suffer a loss or an embarrassing situation, even if he or she was in the middle of a push, simply because they happened to be performing in the very town they grew up in. Even if they werent wrestlers they would stuff go through the torment of having to do something embarrassing in front of many familiar faces.
